ESI-Columbus: A History of Emergency Medical Service in Central Ohio

Emergency Services, Inc. is a physician owned emergency care services group in Columbus, Ohio, providing quality emergency room care. ESI has been active in the greater Columbus area since 1983, providing emergency medical services to the Mount Carmel Health system emergency departments. Since Mount Carmel operates two of the largest hospitals in central Ohio, ESI has needed to keep up with all of the demands and needs of an emergency department that a populated metropolitan area presents. This demand includes staffing the most talented and dedicated emergency physicians, physician's assistants and nurse practitioners - and staffing quite a few of them.

The ESI group is comprised of emergency care physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. Together, we staff the emergency rooms for Mt. Carmel East, Mt. Carmel West and other urgent care facilities. In addition to emergency department medical services, ESI has been creating employment opportunities for emergency doctors and nurses for over 20 years. ESI is the second oldest emergency medical services provider in the country.

The economic and demographic landscape in central Ohio indicates that ESI will need to continue to grow in order to keep up with the population. In fact, Columbus is the 15^th largest city in the country and central Ohio is already the largest growing population center in the Midwest.
